ALAN HYNES

A series of three posters for experimental rock band Mogwai, each featuring a different QRCode. Fans could scan the codes to reveal a picture, which read in sequence, created a photographic rebus puzzle easily deciphered by fans of the band. The posters were further differentiated by different color blends in the type.

These posters were created in 2009 when codes like this were less ubiquitous and still intriguing enough to stand as strong graphic elements in their own right. Even today almost three years later, whilst far more visible and widespread, use of these codes remains fairly mundane often just linking viewers to a company website.
